POLICE OFFICERS GUILTY OF VIOLENCE AND TORTURES

From July 19, 2016 to January 25, 2017, the Baku Court for Grave Crimes conducted a trial of 18 defendants on the so-called “Nardaran case”. Among them, the leader of the “Muslim Unity” Movement Taleh Bagirov, members of this movement Abbas Huseynov, Rasim Dzhabrailov and others, as well as deputy chairman of the opposition party Popular Front of Azerbaijan Fuad Gahramanli.
During the trial, all the defendants testified that two policemen and four residents of the village of Nardaran were killed by police officers on November 26, 2015. Moreover, the residents of the villagers were killed by the police after they were detained.
Members of the “Muslim Unity” Movement told about the cruelest tortures that they were subjected in November-December 2015 in the Main Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan Republic. They provided convincing evidence of gross violation of the international law and legislation of Azerbaijan Republic by the police officers.
Taleh Bagirov testified that he was beaten and forced to testify against leader of the opposition party Popular Front of Azerbaijan Ali Karimli and chairman of the National Council of Democratic Forces Jamil Hasanli.
The accused told the names of the MIA officers who tortured them. Among them all the accused first of all named the head of the Anti-Terrorist Center of Main Department for Combating Organized Crime (MDCOC) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Police Colonel Kerim Alimardanov, who coordinated the operation to seize believers in the village of Nardaran in 2015 and then he took part in the torture of accused in 2016.
Also, all accused named Senior operations inspector for Especially Important Issues of MDCOC Colonel-Lieutenant Islam Agabekov, chief of the MDCOC General-Major Seyfulla Azimov and member of MDCOC Major Shahlar Jafarov.
Kerim Alimardanov was a witness at the Baku Court for Grave Crimes conducted a trial of 18 defendants on the so-called “Nardaran case”. The accused identified him and stated that it was Kerim Alimardanov one of the officers of the MDCOC, who severely beat and tortured them.
